December 7 – 9, 2004

Marriott Renaissance – Waverly Hotel

Conference included:   Technical Sessions on Permitting, Mobile Computing, GIS Design, Databases for Historical Mine Records and More. Poster Sessions, Vendor Demonstrations, and Plenaries

Participants:    Participants included TIPS state, tribal and OSM customers from the engineering, reclamation, permitting, technical support, and management user groups—from both the regulatory and abandoned mine programs.

Background:   OSM staff and TIPS customers are making significant progress in the application of geospatial technology to SMCRA reclamation and enforcement. This progress has never been more evident than at the TIPS Steering Committee meeting held September 9-11, 2003, in Breckenridge, Colorado. Several presentations were made that demonstrated the utility of geospatial technology through SMCRA project examples. The committee asked the TIPS team to investigate the feasibility of sharing this technology with the TIPS customer base, to improve technology transfer and to educate potential users in the available capabilities .

To this end, a joint TIPS, Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB), National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs (NAAMLP) and Interstate Mining Compact Commission (IMCC) team assembled to facilitate and sponsor this conference.

bulletAll in all you all did a great job pulling all of this together.  Keep up the good work.
bulletGreat Conference.  Next time host in Hawaii or Florida and/or near a mine/reclamation site.
bulletAn excellent conference; very helpful; good range of applications; good exchange of info with participants.  Recommend duplicating the success again, regular or annual basis.
bulletWell organized – nice conference
bulletI found the technical input of vendors invaluable at this conference.
bulletThis was about as good as it gets – have more of the same.
bulletLETS HAVE THIS AT LEAST BIANNUAL BASIS, MAYBE EVEN ANNUALLY!!
bulletThis should be an annual event.
bulletVERY GOOD JOB!! LET’S DO IT AGAIN.
bulletAdd webcast for those not able to travel.
bulletMore than what I expected, good information.
bulletThis conference was very valuable.  I encourage putting on future conferences.
bulletKeep doing it! A great forum/opportunity to see what everyone’s doing & compare contrast success/failure – always a motivating experience.

POEM  - "A Tribute to the Evaluation Form:

In the beginning….

            There was the ocean

Then came the personal computer with a steering wheel

To inspire us to find a better way

In the end……

We shall listen to parables (pair o’ Bills)

And their names shall be Clark and Winters

And they shall speak unto us, saying:

“Whosoever filleth not out his evaluation form shall

never leave this conference, and he shall dwell

in the land of Georgia forever!”
