OSM GIS Team and EGIM status
Status: On March 8-10, 2005 Bill Card represented OSM at a meeting of the DOI Enterprise Geographic Information Management (EGIM) Working Group. The meeting was held in the Conference Room of the USGS Central Region Hydrologist’s Office, Building 53, Denver Federal Center, Lakewood, CO. Among the numerous items discussed at the meeting, the following are of particular interest to OSM:
Role of EGIM
The EGIM working group is a departmental team of bureau representatives and area experts who meet to collaboratively determine need for standardization, implementation of GIS, direction on policy, programs, initiatives, funding priorities, organizational needs, as well as coordinating GIS activities among bureau, program, and DOI areas.
Action Items from EGIM Meeting for OSM
The EGIM team has identified tasks to be completed. Each bureau has its own list of action items. OSM has been requested to complete the following items:
ESRI User Conference Complimentary Passes
Users can begin to register on-line for the ESRI User Conference. However, complimentary passes will not be processed until after April 1st. Sometime after April 1, registrants will receive a confirmation. If you register online and receive a bill for the conference, please send that information to Alan Wilhelm so that it can be resolved. Please do not call ESRI.
ESRI Software Media Distribution Option
Starting with the release of ArcGIS 9.1, ESRI will offer an additional option to receive all ESRI software on an external hard drive with USB-2 adapter instead of traditional CDs and DVDs. This device is about the size of a deck of playing cards. ESRI software will also be available on traditional media.
ESRI “Keyless” ArcInfo
ArcGIS 9.2 is scheduled for deployment at the end of CY 2005. Three months after distribution, ESRI plans to release a “keyless” version of ArcInfo specially coded for DOI only. This optional distribution will not require hardware keys or license servers. There is discussion of creation of an “Interior” authorization file for use in installing this version of ArcInfo. On-line Internet registration may be a requirement with this option. This item will not be in the Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA).
TOPO
USGS is working on acquiring the TOPO product for all of DOI and is waiting on pricing information from vendor.
ERDAS Imagine Licenses
BIA will send a data call to determine DOI interest in acquiring Imagine software licenses. OSM needs to determine the number of licenses it needs. BIA will be wanting responses by April 15.
AutoDesk
BOR is working with AutoDesk on determining the number of licenses DOI bureaus have for AutoDesk products. AutoDesk is requesting an Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) with DOI similar to the ESRI ELA.
ESRI Enterprise Development Network (EDN)
Action: Bill Card needs to advise Greg Morlock of the support information regarding ESRI.
Action: Advise Alan Wilhelm is you have an interest in going to the ESRI conference.
TIPS Web Team Status

TIPS 2006 Steering Committee Meeting
Status: Lois Uranowski will be our lead on this meeting
TEAM REPORTS:
Susan Stoyek: Powerpoint 2003: Animated GIFs contained in Powerpoint presentations earlier than version 2003 will not run the animation in Powerpoint 2003. We're waiting to hear back from Microsoft on this issue. Bob Welsh will advise the instructors.
ArcGIS: If you upgrade to Office 2003 on a computer with ArcGIS installed, at the next startup of an ArcGIS component (e.g., ArcMap) an installation routine will begin and couple of minutes later you'll be prompted to insert the ArcGIS Desktop CD . Insert the ArcGIS Desktop CD which will run a repair routine (takes about 5 minutes if you've disabled antivirus). ArcGIS requires a couple of directories with files located in \Program Files\Microsoft Office. The Office 2003 upgrade removes them as they are no longer needed by Office. The ArcGIS repair routine (which is referred to as an installation in the message screens) reinstalls them back and probably corrects registry issues.
Veronika Eskova: Galena Slope Stability Analysis Course is available in-classroom and online now. Galena Online course is successfully completed and ready for students. This information will be available to our customers through OSM training contacts. For more information about Galena Online Course visit http://www.tips.osmre.gov/training/index.asp
Bob Welsh: There is contract money left for e-learning courses
Mike Benavides: Will be traveling to Sheridan, Wyo and Casper, Wyo to visit and repair TIPS software installations.
