NOTE: Instructions below referring to "training contacts" submitting course registration forms for TIPS training classes are for state and tribal employees only.  OSMRE employees are responsible for applying for training courses through DOI Learn.  OSMRE employees wanting to take ESRI on-line courses should email jvillanueva@osmre.gov stating the course they are interested in taking, after they seek supervisory approval to take the course.

Instructor-Led Class Procedure

    
  1. Employees indicate their interest in attending a TIPS class via the annual Training Needs Survey (May).

  2. The designated survey contact compiles training needs information and inputs data electronically into the survey (May).

  3. TIPS representatives decide the TIPS classes/location that will be offered for the next fiscal year (June/July).

  4. Employees are assigned slots in the TIPS classes, based on their identified needs from the Training Needs Survey (August).  Your training contact will advise you if you have been assigned a slot in a TIPS class.
     
  5. If you are a state/tribal employee, your training contact will submit course registration forms via DOI Learn for the slots assigned to their office (August-December).
    NOTE:  Employee will receive an email from DOI Learn indicating they are on the “closed roster” list.

  6. If you are an OSM employee, you will need to go into DOI Learn and apply for the class.  NOTE:  Employee will receive an email from DOI Learn indicating your supervisor needs to approve your registration for the class.

  7. When an employee is registered for a TIPS class, they receive an email from DOI Learn to validate this status.  If the class is full, the employee will be placed on the waitlist, and they will receive an email from DOI Learn to validate this status.

  8. In January, if slots are not “claimed” via a course registration form in DOI Learn, slots are released to anyone with an interest/need to attend TIPS classes.  An email is sent to training contacts advising them of classes with slot openings; training contacts share this information with employees in their office.

  9. After January, employee should determine if there are additional TIPS classes they did not identify in the training needs survey and would like to take by reviewing the course description on
    the TIPS Training website.

  10. If you are a state/tribal employee, obtain permission from your supervisor to attend, and get with their training contact who will submit a course registration form via DOI Learn.  Steps 5 and 7 above are repeated.

  11. If you are an OSM employee, go into DOI Learn and apply for the class.  Step 6 and 7 above are repeated.

Approximately 6-8 weeks prior to the TIPS class, the employee will receive an email from the Denver training coordinator advising them they are scheduled to attend the training course, the location, the dates/times the class will take place, and requesting information from the employee regarding travel arrangements.  Local training coordinators where the class is being held will begin corresponding with the employee and handles all travel arrangements.

Employee gets in touch with their office training contact to submit a course registration form to register for the course.  Form should be sent via email (jvillanueva@osmre.gov) or fax (303-844-1538) to Jessica Villanueva.

Employee will be sent logon and password information and instructions for accessing online courses in DOI Learn.

Employee will receive a confirmation e-mail from Jessica giving them the necessary information to access the course online.

After completing the online course, employee will need to complete an online course evaluation to receive credit for completion.
